SCORE Mentor: George Stern

When Ameneh visited with Detroit SCORE mentor, George Stern, she had her heart set on owning a food truck but, after a few minutes of listing the investment required, it became apparent that she could not afford the investment for the expected return she could earn on a part-time basis.  They discussed operating a pop-up in an established restaurant as no license or investment in cooking appliances or pots, cutlery and eating utensils would be required.  Ameneh had never known such an option was available.

After research on the internet, Ameneh had her first success as a chef as she was the featured restauranteur at St. Cece’s restaurant in Corktown on October 11, 2016.  She featured, Tripoli Bites (Mediterranean vegetables), Monrovia Wings (spicy chicken), Palm Butter Stew (beef and chicken with white Jasmine rice) and Banana Rice Bread (served with non-alcoholic Liberian ginger beer) for dessert.  It was so successful, that Mina has already began scheduling her next "pop ups”.
