SCORE Mentor: George Stern

Denecho Turner contacted Detroit SCORE in May 2016.  She was looking for general startup assistance.

Denecho has 20 years’ experience as a registered nurse. She was working with an agency providing home health care.  She decided to start her own home health care business.

Initially she evaluated a franchise.  The $6,000 fee and limited support turned her off. Like many entrepreneurs, she started her own business as “Ethel’s Home Care Service”.  Her tag line is “We Care for You Like Family” as Ethel was her grandmother.

My Successes:
Denecho now supports five staff members and has quit her job to devote her time to her business.  Congratulations to Denecho.
How SCORE Helped:

Her SCORE mentor George Stern provided a variety of start-up assistance including State of Michigan and EIN registration.  Additional meetings between Denecho and George included work on a logo, business cards, website, brochure and other marketing activities.  George also helped with suggestions on organizations to help with insurance, accounting, payroll, staff and her Service Dog.
