David Broner, Certified Volunteer Mentor for the Southeast Michigan Chapter of SCORE, Among Eight Earning Accolades

Fellow mentors throughout the Southeast Michigan Chapter of SCORE know better than anyone—as do a number of mentees across the region—just how dedicated, committed and passionate Certified Volunteer Mentor David Broner is. Now the Detroit Jewish News joins the chorus of those singing his praises, as Broner is to be honored as one of the publication's "Eight Over Eighty," recognizing eight individuals over the age of 80 who make demonstrable and laudatory impact on our community.

The magazine's "Eight Over Eighty" is similar to other recognitions by media outlets nationally, who have honored "40 Under 40," "30 in Their 30s" and "20 in their 20s." Why should octogenerians not be honored as well?!

David will be formally honored during a Facebook Live event on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at noon, a virtual event that will this year replace the traditional gala due to the pandemic. This year's masters of ceremony are Ilana Block and Joshua Goldberg. Sponsorship opportunities and donations in David's name can be made by visiting https://www.jslmi.org/online.

"David never slows down," says Donna Hover-Ojeda, Chair of the Southeast Michigan Chapter of SCORE. "The fact that he's in his 80s goes virtually unnoticed, as he will be the first to raise a hand to volunteer, is working harder as a volunteer than most do while getting paid, and still manages to work circles around most of us...even in his 80s! I can't think of a more worthy recipient, and he joins great company in this year's class."

At no surprise to anyone who knows him, David was a font of humility upon learning of the recognition. "I am humbled," he says. "My real goal is to reach out to the metro Detroit community I hold so dear, and to pay back and pay it forward for being so fortunate...in family, in friends, in business, and in life. I am grateful, even when it rains."

Please join us in congratulating one of our own for his accomplishments and for his selflessness. He truly embodies what it means to be a volunteer and mentor.
